I am excited to share some great news with you!

Updated: Jul 31, 2020

I am running to represent you as a Trustee on the Davis School Board, District 5. The election is Tuesday, November 3, 2020. I would be honored to have your enm vote and represent you.

I am running for school board because of my experience, dedication and passion for advocating for children’s programs such as Head Start, Foster Care and special needs programs. I am running because during these challenging times it is imperative that we continue to provide funding and resources to these program areas, so teachers have the tools and resources to help our children thrive.

I know firsthand the importance of the programs that are funded by the Board of Trustees and the positive impact they have on helping children thrive. As the child of a family who toiled in the fields to put food on the table and keep a roof over our heads, my mom enrolled me in Head Start, because she understood the value of a quality early childhood education and wanted me to have opportunities she never had. Some years after high school I attended community college and transferred to UC Davis to earn my degree in Sociology, Law and Society. Later when my husband and I started our family we enrolled two of our three kids in Yolo County Head Start and it is there that I served as Chair and Vice-Chair of the Head Start Policy Council. We reviewed and approved programs and budgets to ensure teachers had the resources they needed, and all children continued to receive a quality education. When Congress threatened to cut funding for Head Start, I headed up a small group of concerned parents to lobby our local Congressman and other members of Congress to not cut funding. As a Foster/Adopt parent I spoke before the Assembly Budget Subcommittee on Health and Human Services to advocate against funding cuts.

As a trustee, I will bring my experience, dedication and passion to advocate for our children,

teachers and parents. Furthermore, I will have an open mind and an open door to the concerns of parents and teachers.

Serving you and your family,

Cecilia Escamilla-Greenwald
